THE FIFTH PLACE
The Fifth Place is a social club within Van Abbemuseum devoted to behavioral experimentation and more abstract forms of togetherness. A gathering for high-level play between strangers, guided by a system of roles and rules that twist language, gesture and meaning.
On selected dates, The Fifth Place hosts concentrated activations lasting an hour, followed by a casual hangout. Participation is free and advance registration is required.
The club is also open during regular museum hours through 21 February. Every Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, we host a weekly gathering: museum admission is free, and we encourage people to come together during this time to help make the space feel more vibrant and lively. Come back, bring someone along, or send someone our way. Director of Behavior: Michael Portnoy Architecture designed in collaboration with Christian Wassmann
The Fifth Place opens October 17.
